The Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Honorable Glenn Allen Youngkin, issued the following statement on Monday, July 10th:

From the Governor:

The Spirit of VMI PAC has been a valuable partner in our shared efforts to make Virginia the best place to live, work, raise a family – and get a high-quality education at one of the nation’s premier military colleges. Their impassioned focus on the preservation of foundational precepts and rubrics of Virginia Military Institute are important to all of us who hold the Commonwealth dear.

The Governor won election in 2021 and was endorsed by The Spirit of VMI in that race. Governor Youngkin campaigned on a platform that included heavy emphasis on returning education to the citizens of the Commonwealth and stopping the teaching of divisive concepts such as critical race theory, initiatives fully supported by The Spirit of VMI. Since taking office Governor Youngkin has made eight appointments to the VMI Board of Visitors, actions that we hope will aid in the restoration of the high quality of education possible at VMI and return the Institute to a sound financial footing.

The Chairman of The Spirit of VMI, Matt Daniel ’85, said, “We fully support Governor Youngkin in his and his cabinet’s efforts to ensure equal opportunity for education, health, prosperity and success for all across the four corners of the Commonwealth. We are thankful that this endeavor includes our alma mater: VMI. We appreciate the Governor’s work and his awareness that VMI is Good, and it always has been.”

The Spirit of VMI is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and defend the honor of the Institute with the Virginia Legislature.
